Introduction to service evaluation

1 May 2019 9.30am - 4.30pm

Why do we evaluate existing services and new interventions? How do we plan an evaluation? What measures can we use and how do we collect data?

Aims of the workshop

This interactive workshop aims to generate discussion and provide answers to these and other questions about getting started with service evaluation. The presenters (from CLAHRC West and UWE) will share experience of successful evaluations and facilitate group work that will give you the opportunity to develop your own evaluation ideas and get feedback. After attending the workshop, it is expected that you will:

  • Appreciate the benefits and limitations of evaluations
  • Be aware of different approaches to designing an evaluation including the use of a logic model
  • Have considered the potential ethical and governance issues for an evaluation you are planning
  • Have developed an initial evaluation plan that can be implemented within your organisation
  • Understand some of the different data collection methods and measures/indicators you can use in your evaluation
  • Know where to access further resources and support

Who is this workshop for?

Staff in provider and commissioning organisations who are interested in carrying out an evaluation of a service or intervention. Participants should have an evaluation in mind that they need to carry out and be prepared to talk about this with others. Please note there will be some pre-reading and exercises to complete before the course.

This course is CPD accredited for 6 hours.
