Members of the public needed for CLAHRC West health systems panel

6 February 2017

We are looking for members of the public with experience of public involvement and some understanding of the wider health and social care systems to join our health systems panel. You might have experience of involvement in research, of helping to improve health services, or of involvement in commissioning.

We are working with People in Health West of England to set up this new panel to help our researchers think about public and patient perspectives on projects focused on system-wide issues in health and social care, rather than on particular health conditions and treatments. For example, this includes projects to reduce unnecessary investigations or treatments and projects to improve patient safety. The role is to act as a ‘critical friend’ and to provide a thoughtful and informed public perspective.

What’s involved?

Applicants with appropriate experience will be invited to attend an induction and selection session on Tuesday 28 February from 5.30-7.30 pm in central Bristol. At this session you will find out more about the role, and we will introduce you to the work of NIHR CLAHRC West and the kind of health research studies we do. We will also work on an example project and issue together.

Based on your application and contribution at the induction and selection session, we will choose panel members.

Working on the panel will mean coming to meetings in the early evening about 4-6 times a year. You will be offered payment and expenses for the work you do. You may also be asked to give feedback on materials by email. We want to recruit 6-8 people with a range of perspectives.

How do I apply?

If you are interested you need to apply by Thursday 16 February.

Have a look at the role profile (PDF) and fill in the application form (Word doc).  Please don’t be put off by the paperwork, we just need to find out a bit about you.

Please send your completed application to Rosie Davies, Research Fellow (Patient and Public Involvement), NIHR CLAHRC West by email or post:
