Lara joined CLAHRC West in August 2016 and is responsible for the efficient management of the unit. She manages and maintains the complex internal and external relationships, both within the local region and across the country, in order to develop the research and ensure its relevance to the partners. She also is responsible for the unit’s budgetary planning, management reporting and developing and implementing operational procedures to ensure robust research and management governance.

She originally qualified as a microbiologist and after several years working in infectious disease laboratories, made the transition to clinical trial and research management and has held varied senior roles within this area, in London and Bristol, including managing a UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit, working as a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Quality Manager within a NIHR Wellcome Clinical Research Facility and more recently for the EU-wide Innovative Medicines  Initiative (iMi) COMBACTE-MAGNET Programme, and has managed various NIHR Programme Grants, trials and pilot studies, most recently at Bristol Eye Hospital.
