James’s work aims to support the implementation of CLAHRC West projects, and is currently working on two main projects: the implementation of the Chief Medical Officer’s Physical Activity Guidelines, and the implementation of the IRIS ADViSE service.

James has an extensive background in Public Health research, most notably around the implementation of systems approaches to address obesity. His work is often multi-methodological and pragmatic, aiming to address questions which are pertinent to local and national stakeholders. He has published a range of articles, book chapters, and public facing documents, as well as presenting frequently at national / international conferences, and recently to the Health and Social Care Committee as part of its Childhood Obesity Inquiry.
