Dr Brent Opmeer

Brent Opmeer is a senior research fellow, and joined the NIHR Collaborative Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care West (CLAHRC West) in 2015.

He obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and subsequently worked at the department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Clinical Research Unit, Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, before joining the effectiveness and efficiency teams of CLAHRC-West to share his expertise in health care evaluation research. He has over 150 peer-review publications on clinical evaluation research, including randomized clinical trials, health economic evaluation studies, clinical prediction models, systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy, and treatment preferences and trade-offs. In addition to his honorary position at the University of Bristol, he remains appointed as senior lecturer at the Clinical Research Unit, Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Within CLAHRC he is leading quantitative projects covering topics such as magnesium sulphate as a neuroprotector in preterm birth and approaches to change in clinical practice, and evaluation of new investment in psychiatric liaison services at University Hospitals Bristol.
